The 2010 edition of Folk Fest was the very fest festival for Beau Smith Frogs under the banner of FrogShway. We put a great deal of a push into getting ready for this show. Being that this was our very first, we can look back now and say…wow that was a lot of work, let’s tweak a few things for the next festival. The week prior was held about every obstacle in the books for us. Accidents in the studio, flat tires new design ideas all served up by the Shwah to take us off course. Without the determination of the team at Beau Smith Studios we would never have pulled it off. And pull it off we did, our wall frogs were a HUGE success and the baby frogs sold out. Five of our Frogurines made their way into loving homes adding to the strong energy already held in the power of the FrogShway. We even sold the Monkey, designed to be a breakout creature from the current collection of Frogs. It went to the Library of Westminster School. So many people came up to us acknowledging our presence at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens; and about ten people came to our booth and shared that they have human or midsized Beau Smith frogs in their yards. A special thanks to everyone who helped us pull off this first festival. Thom Lillie for help with design and construction of the booth, Amy Walsh for the inspiration of the Baby Frog design, Beau Smith for being an amazing out of the box creative genius who pulls out all the stops to get things done and continues to innovate even in the final week, Beau Higgins for his skillful job with the brazing torch, Julian for his faithful hands in loading and working the FolkFest crowd. One lady came up to me with the most interesting comment about Julian (and he’s always a crowd pleaser) … she said, “Ain’t no fleas on that boy.” I laughed and thought to myself … wonder where she’s from. I can’t wait for the next festival!!!
Oh, for those of you who didn’t make it to Folk Fest here are a few highlights.
- Eric Legee is off the Hook AWESOME…if you don’t have his work in your collection, it may not be a ‘real’ collection
- Donna Kruger of DK Gallery in Marietta purchased the very first Baby Frog this year at Folk Fest
- Paul Flack took painting fast to a whole new level, he sold 200 painted circular disks for $20 and they are going to be feature in a media program
- Fredrick Payet’s Frenchy Cats made an appearance along with some great textured artwork
- The BBQ was out of this world and Steve Slotin is a genius with security. He runs a great festival ship, can’t wait till the auction later this fall.
- Chris Warner has really stretched out into the 3-D mixed media assemblage arena. Chris is my marketing hero…he does so much right!
- Kim Clayton was styling with some outstanding cowgirl dress
- Oh…the canvas pink llama almost got in the car with me, but Napoleon Dynamite had a leash on him
- People LOVED the FrogShway brand…and it’s only going UP from here
